So here it is…. the new album from the boys… 3rd album…. does the third time a charm? well, let’s see…
This band needs no introduction… you heard them on the radio, seen them on tv, heck, some of you may even bought the products they are endorsing… that’s bamboo alright… the first album taught us that we should not be ashamed as filipinos and sing our hearts out “Hoy! pinoy ako… buo aking loob, may agimat ang dugo ko” then, it was followed up by “Hallelujah!” now comes “Tatsulok” a revival song from the group “Buklod” which talks about the status of people in the philippines. A revolt song saying that “it’s time to put the elite and abusive people out of the top of the triangle” kinda hard to explain but once you hear the song, you’ll get what i mean
so what’s in store for us? well, 2 discs. The first disc is the album itself. it starts of with “Probinsyana” an upbeat tune that talks about ladies from the province, their good qualities, basically, what a man likes in a woman.
Second track is “feelin’ alright”, then followed up by “So far away” which was originally sung by carole king. i must say that this is one of the best songs that they have taken thir own style of musicality in it. bamboo’s voice is indeed “the bomb” on this track. Next is “alive” a mellow rock song filled with awesome drumbeats ang guitar. “50 ways to leave your lover” originally sung by paul simon. then a song by seal “prayer for the dying” the album nearly ends with 2 more OPM tracks. “umagang kay ganda” was arranged in a nice way… then the album closes with “Tatsulok”, their current single…
but wait…
there’s more….
i was shocked that the last track lasts about 17 mins and 17 seconds. how many tmes did they played tatsulok? well to my surprise, 2 hidden tracks were added. one is an instrumental jam by the band, then a live recording of another revival “Englishman in New York” (which by the way, highlight vic mercado’s groovy drum solo)
now, the second disc contains diffrent tracks from the past 2 albums but with a twist. think of it as a “jam-with-the-band” disc. you get to jam with them as ira cruz, nathan azarcon, and vic mercado (too bad, you can’t play as bamboo)
now, i’ve been hearing mixed comments about this album (both negative, positive comments and reviews.) now here’s my take on it.
Pros:
- Expect something against the flow (in terms of music execution unlike other bands today)
- Soothing voice
- Something new (experimental)
Cons:
- 8 tracks (all revivals) what happened to them?
- Revivals
- And again, 8 tracks?
8 Tracks…. this leaves the listener wanting for more….. either more original music, or more revivals by the band. i have suggestion. what if they made it 2 discs but instead of the package right now:
disc 1 – revival
disc 2 – originals
now that would make everyone happy.
Possible future singles:
- So Far away
- Probinsyana
- Umagang kay ganda
- Prayer for the dying
Overall Rating:
B
