Yep, as a responsible motorist, we are obliged to drive carefully and defensively. Well, yesterday, my motto of being a defensive driver came to a test.

As i was leaving the subdivision and driving my mom’s car to buy lunch (a Kia pride) i was slowly crossing main road (since im getting out of the subdivision and it’s an intersection so you have to go slow)

When suddenly….

There was this jeepney coming in from where im going and he’s doing an overtake (take not, that is my right of way and the jeepney was on the opposing lane, which would be my right of way) and as i slowly make a turn, he comes in very fast and doesn’t seem to notice that i was there. As he makes a complete stop (which he said to me after the incident) it was too late and the left side of the jeepney crashed the left passenger door of the car. And alas, i was involved in a vehicular accident. Don’t worry folks, im ok, except that the car was…..

Well, this picture would explain what happened

This is the aftermath

So afterwards, i saw the driver, he was around 50 years old and said to me that i should move the car so that we won’t cause any traffic. But i insisted (that was a mistake i made when i was first involved in a vehicular accident like this and it didn’t ended up well)

He was saying to me that, we should just settle this and you know, move along with our lives. A little “pukpok” or hammering the door would be fine (i said to myself, how in the world can a little hammering would make the door look like there was no accident at all? This man is pissing me off….

The old man and his jeepney....

Then a traffic enforcer came to us and made a sketch of the said incident.  There were alot of onlookers (even people who will dive in to your conversation even though they are not involved and they act like they know it all and will you know, quite irritate you)

Afterwards, the traffic enforcer instructed us to move the vehicles out of the way to reduce traffic. And after the old man moved his jeepney away from the car, a very horrendous view of the door was next….

The precious car....

I said to myself as i saw this gritty image of the door “Shit! yari ako!” (Fuck! im screwed) And as i texted pancake and my mom, i was still in a very relaxed mode. Then my mom instructed me to wait for my uncles so that we could all have a resolution to the problem. While waiting for them, the old man came up with some ideas:

1. He will replace the door and for that to happen, ihave to join him on his place because he knows someone there who can fix that door (it’ a big no-no to join when strangers ask you to go with them)

2. He will pay me an amount of 1,000 pesos for the damages (wtf???)

3. He told me that he was already involved in an accident a few weeks ago with a mini-bus (wow! what a driver! and he has the guts to say that to me?)

4. It was an accident and can never be avoided (yeah i know… it was an accident…. i am a careful driver…. how about you?)

5. I will place the car in my insurance (so now after your damage, we have to suffer by not using the car and impounding it on where your insurance would take it? hell no!)

And so the discussion continues… my uncles arrived and pretty much the end of the story, we didn’t meet up with an agreement and we have to go to the police station to settle it. Afterwards in the police station, we came to an agreement that we will talk it over with my parents, as they will have the final say on the decision regarding with the car.

And so my day ends, but not without the stress-relieving donut-pancake day… thanks for making me feel more relaxed and stress free. MNMKBP999

And so the moral lessons of the story after this incident:

- It has come to my attention that indeed, however careful you are in everything you do, there is always someone or something that will screw it up for you. Demmet!

- I know some of you would not agree on this one but i have to say this. To all irresponsible jeepney drivers out there, even though they call you “King of the road” doesn’t mean that you have to act like you own the road. Be careful especially when driving because all of your passengers’ lives is at your hands. This goes to all drivers to.

- To all you people out there whom you already think you know everything, just backoff and shut the fuck up!

Take care now, byebye then!

*update:

My parents already saw the car and their verdict:

No driving for me for quite sometime (damn you driver!)
