As you all know, our beloved station NU107 will be closing down in a few days. Some of us were still in shock and caught surprised on the recent events. I have been hearing this rumours at least a week before November 1, 2010 and the initial plan according to what I have heard is that it will be a gradual transformation from “rock” to “masa” station and it should be done by the end of year.

Upon hearing this news, I felt sad because unknown to others, I have been listening to them since Elementary days (grade 6 so be exact) and up until now, I still listen to them. They were the ones who first introduced me to one of my favorite bands of all time which is the Eraserheads.

Fast forward to high school: I was influenced heavily by NU. I’d buy cassette tapes of Wolfgang, Razoback, Third Eye Blind, The Dawn and even Da Pulis (yup, gabe mercado’s band) I would listen to live broadcasts of Summer Shebang, Nu Pocket Concerts, Alternativity and the annual Rock Awards. I also first heard one of my fave bands which is Sugarfree with their hit Telepono.

Our band Mushtards even did a cover on it which can be seen below:

On to College: everyday when I go to school, I always listen to Zack And Joey in the morning (way before good times on Magic 899) and I find their chemistry hilarious. They always fill up my mornings with a smile on my face as I drive my way to school. There was even this one time when they proposed a radio for the campus, I even told them that if I would be onboard, rock music will be my show. Yeah, that’s the reason why I took up Mass Communications. I want to be a part of the NU family.

Now I already have work, i still listen to them. So sad to see the station signs off on Sunday. One thing is for sure. As long as I listen to rock music, I play rock music and there is rock music, NU will still live upon us

A moment of silence for NU 107…. Thanks for the rockin’ memories….

“I’d like to toast this bottle of beer for you… Thank you!”
