I know some of you guys and girls know the game Megaman (yeah, the blue bomber who does all sorts of weapon upgrades by defeating level bosses..) yeah, old-school gameplay…

Yesterday, i was lured into a bet by my officemate Crisler with regards to this game. Here’s how the bet goes:

I will purchase the game Megaman 9 on the Playstation Network Store (crisler gave me the initial funding to buy it) and his bet? in a month, i have to make at least 10 achievements from the list of achievements which can be found here)

However, if i lose this friggin’ bet, then he gets the amount of the game back plus an additional 80 pesos. How will he be able to check the achievements i have already completed? By video

I’m planning (if i still find the time) to document this bet into a simple 2-3 minute video update which will be posted here on my blog.  Goodluck to me! hehehe

As i started to post in my facebook account that i have already purchased the game, here is what they commented over at my account.

This is the support that i got from some of my officemates...

Wow! what support

What a great way to start the year! Bringt it on!

2009 in review

December 31st, 2009

Another has passed, and so on with my post. Here is a look back on the year that i had.

  • Celebrated our first year together as Donut-Pancake. (This is on top of my list)
  • Was looking for a new job. Almost came back to my roots as a video editor.
  • Acquired my own domain for this blog
  • Was hired by Gameloft Philippines as a Game Producer.
  • Didn’t swam in any pool nor beach (too busy)
  • Started on my first project (Hero of Sparta PSP)
  • Was able to finish it on time for release on the Minis format
  • Handled the finishing end of Oregon Trail DSiware (was recently released); that makes 2 game titles finished under a year
  • Currently starting on a new project
  • Went on a blogging hiatus (again, busy man)
  • Won the Redmobile Redretro entry (contest that was full of controversy but in the end, the truth prevailed)
  • Upgraded my PC (woot)
  • Techie year for 2009 (Cookiephone, Laptop, Ipod touch, PS3)
  • Still saving up money for the grand plan
  • Most of my friends got married
  • Was a stressful year (nevertheless, still can make it)
  • Composed some songs but doesn’t have the time recording it (again, busy)
  • Just like last year, been getting better, stronger and happier

I would assess the 2009  a  year of challenges, happiness, stress, personal achievements and had me setting up my bar a notch in terms of personal abilities. Even though there were times that i was reaching my limits, there’s this special person who keeps me encouraged and gives me the reason to hang in there and she makes sure that everything is alright and well. Thank you so much and i love you! MNMKBP999. Cheers to forever for the both of us!

Thank you also god for all the blessings you have given us and making us strong and looking forward for more years to come.

I don’t know what 2010 holds for us, but rest assured, this will be a year of new challenges and a brighter future ahead.

To keep in tradition with my year-end posts, I’m making a mixtape available and on it is the list of songs that kept playing on my ipod, winamp and stereo over the past year. I shall call it, “Popo’s Rockin’ music for 2009″

10. Zach Lucero Feat. Sarah Marco of Taken By Cars – Matina Town Square

- Simply put one amazing drummer and songwriter plus one infectious voice like Sarah and you get this song. Classic indeed.

9. Hawthorne Heights – Somewhere in between

- Call them emo but this song is catchy especially upon reaching the chorus.

8. The Fray – You found me

- First heard it on television and was used as the theme song for the new season of Lost. These guys haven’t lost their touched at all just like their previous singles.

7. Spazzkid feat. Owel of Ang Bandang Shirley – Blinding Lights

- I believe this song was done a long time ago, and after acquiring Spazzkid EP’s over his site and listening to this song, i can’t help but miss my mini-keyboard. Go take a listen to this track. Perfect track to listen while driving the highway or just simply on a trip going somewhere else.

6. Plus/Minus – Snowblind

- Another track that makes me want to play the drums again. Take a listen

5. The Stolen Cars – Abbey and Audrey

- Discovered this track while playing Jam Legend online. More on the pop-ish side but a notable track listening to.

4. Coldrain – 8am

- One of 2 Japanese rock bands on my list. Used in the anime series “Hajime No Ippo: The new challenger” There was a second version though featured on the band’s debut album but i prefer this version that can be found on their EP.

3. Asian Kung-Fu Generation – Yoru no Call

- This band never fails to impress me. Year after year, they keep on releasing new tracks. I prefer this one over their latest one and im looking forward to their next one which would be featured on the movie Solanin.

2. Archipelago – Meteor

- Sadly, the only OPM band that made my list this year,. It was a tough call between peryodiko, kjwan, urbandub and pupil just to name a few but only one can stand out. Like a meteor… a hundred thousand years in the speed of light…. pure lyrical genius.

1. Foo Fighters – Everlong

- Breathe out… so i can breathe you in… hold you in… Dave Grohl and the rest of the band never fails to impress me. Heck, i even play this song on rockband and will not get tired of listening to it.

2009… A Retrospective….

December 31st, 2009

Ahh, in a few hours, we shall bid goodbye to 2009 and hello in the year 2010. Almost a decade had already passed. It was just like yesterday when the whole world panicked about the Y2K problem, Tsunami’s and terrorist attacks are here and there. The fall of Saddam Hussein, the election of the first African-American president and other things that were truly a first for everyone, including your truly :)

As we look back in the year 2009, our country also has it’s shares of up’s and downs. We had the so-called “rice shortage” problem, the sex scandals which paved way to names like Maricar Reyes, Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili. We even sang the song “Careless Whisper” and uttered the words “Ooh lala! Sizzling Hot!” We felt sad with the deaths of the following celebrities like King of pop Michael Jackson, The EDSA revolution icon Cory Aquino, The creator of one of the most famous models of guitar that most musicians use, Les Paul just to name a few.

Ondoy caught us off-guard but instead of falling and tumbling down in the ground, we all joined hands and we rose from the aftermath. Truly, one of the sights to see and something to be proud of us filipinos all over the world. The massacre of journalists that happened in mindano which up to know, still has no justice served. I support the codemning of killing my fellow journalists.

Pacquiao kept on annihilating his foes (he’s done with mexicans, Hatton and Cotto were his new targets this year and he was successful on it) Too bad the dream match against Mayweather is on the rocks and im still hoping that one day, these 2 showstoppers will finally face off in the ring and prove to the world, who’se the real number one pound for pound fighter.

This is just a little sample of my look back at 2009. The next post will be my New Year’s Revolution (as i do it every year) 2009 in review and the tunes that kept me rockin on the year that is full of surprises and unexpected turns…

~Cheers!

Hello! While I’m preparing for the year end posts (yes, it’s the traditional new year’s revolution, top 10 music and other stuff) I’m bringing you a Japanese music break post. This time; it’s the same song done by 2 different artists: The videos are both coming from youtube users Sincer1987 and NerdyBass.

The first video is the original artist Husking Bee while the second one is a revival done by one of my favorite Japanese rock bands, Asian Kung-Fu Generation. The song is entitled “Kake Botan no Hama” which translates in english as “The beach of neglected buttons

Go ahead and take your pick, which sounds better?

Go ahead, purchase, download and play this game! For the price of 800 Nintendo DSi Points™, this i one game that you will be playing for hours.

Kudos to the team and also to the former game producer, Em who started working on this project. Now it’s finally safe to say that we have already reached the end of the trail. Yeehaaw!

Either way, i think they’re both great versions.

On a side note:

This has to be the best album commercial for me this 2009. All of the album covers of Jay-Z was featured on this video.

Note on my monitor

This is one of the reasons why i love my job…

The Story: We are about to submit a build of the game on this certain company for checking so that we may be able to release the said game on that certain area (sorry, can’t tell what game it is as this is something confidential) One of the programmers worked on the changes on the game as required for us to pass the test. Since i left the office and went home a little early on the day he was the day before, he left me a note on the monitor of my PC.

Upon close examination of the note

One of the reasons why being a Game Developer kicks ass!
